At the rate kids grow, buying clothes can really put a dent in your wallet but there are lots of great ways to get amazing deals on kid’s clothes. Here are just a few ideas that’ll help you save your hard earned dough:
- Get the Word Out - Let friends know you’re happy to give a good home to the clothes their children have outgrown. Most people would rather pass things on instead of having them hang around in the closet.
- Buying in Advance - Buying clothes out of season can save you a huge amount of money but only buy in advance if you’re sure the clothes will fit later on.
- Maintenance - Dryers significantly reduce the life of clothing so try and use a clothes line or drying rack to dry clothes as this will prevent shrinkage and general wear and tear.
- Consignment Shops- Recycling clothes not only saves you money but it also helps save the environment! Purchasing pre-worn clothes means you can often keep the kids happy with brand name clothing at a fraction of the price. Make note of when their sales are on so you can save even more!
- Clothing Swaps - One of the best ways to exchange clothes is to host a local area clothing swap. If you don’t want to host it yourself, suggest it be held at your local community center. Everyone benefits and best of all it’s free!
- Online Sites - There are a variety of websites where people are able to sell their wares. Once you buy an item from someone, try and develop a long-term relationship with them to ensure they contact you first when they have other toys or clothes for sale that their children have outgrown.
- Duplication - Before hitting the shops, go through your children’s wardrobes to see exactly what they already have. Impulse buying wastes a lot of money so plan your purchases so there’s no unnecessary duplication.
These tips apply not only to children’s clothes but to adults as well. Taking the time to scour the second hand shops is well worth it as there are so many bargains to be had plus, it’s very rewarding to find the perfect piece of buried treasure.
